Choosing the Right Pet
Many families introduce a pet when their kids are young and it is a great way to teach children about responsibility. It is important to choose the right pet, generally a small pet to start off with, something like a guinea pig, rabbit or if you like them mice since they are low maintenance, cheap and easy to keep. This is important since no doubt the adults will end up spending the bulk of their time caring for the animal! Plus an animal like a dog requires walking so if your hands are full already with existing commitments such as work and looking after the kids then it’d be wise to avoid such a pet, especially if this is your first pet.
If you are ready to have a dog then remember to consider the costs involved which depending on the breed can vary significantly. Not only do you have the food cost, exercise items and toys. There are also the vaccination costs; many are needed for a puppy.
There are many good reasons to have a dog from the fun they are for kids to the lessons to learn as they are growing up, plus they will live a lot longer than a fish!
